Cover Band or DJ

Start with the music you want to hear and the atmosphere you want to create. Consider the musical style, the evening's programme and how you want the artists to interact with your guests.

The difference in one minute

A cover band brings live sound, vocals, stage energy and a sense of presence. Guests see the music happening, respond to the singers and film the performance. A live version of a favorite song feels different from the original recording — and that difference is memorable.

A DJ works with original recordings and can change the set as the evening develops. Discuss must-play tracks, requests and the performance schedule beforehand. The setup is usually more compact than a full band.

When live music is stronger

• Key moments — the first dance, entrances, congratulations and the climax of the evening become real events.
• Atmosphere and status — a live group establishes the level of the occasion from the welcome onward.
• Emotion and participation — the singer works with the room and guests can perform on stage.
• Video and content — live performance creates moments people want to revisit and share.

When to choose a DJ

• A long dancefloor until morning, where uninterrupted music matters most.
• A particular electronic style or an artist's own set that you want to make the focus of the evening.
• A small venue without enough space or sound equipment for a band.
• A strict request for specific original recordings.

Why events often use both

At medium and large weddings and corporate events, a band and a DJ complement each other:

1. Welcome — a live acoustic or lounge set while guests arrive.
2. Main program — the cover band performs the major blocks of the evening.
3. Breaks and afterparty — the DJ fills technical pauses and continues after the band.

This arrangement combines live performances with recorded music during breaks and after the band. We agree the timing and each performer’s role beforehand.

How to decide for your event

For live vocals, instruments and interaction with the performers, choose a band. For original recordings, an electronic set and continuous music, consider a DJ. You can combine both in one programme.

A DJ's fee may be higher than the cost of a band's performance. Compare the artists' music, examples of their work and their role in your evening.
